Kuala Lumpur, 15th October, 2016 – Local environmental NGO, EcoKnights today announced the winners of the 8th National Green Awards or Anugerah Hijau 2016.

The announcement and the award ceremony were held at the White Box, Publika today.

Anugerah Hijau, or the Green Awards, is an annual nationwide competition organized by non-profit environmental organization, EcoKnights along with its collaborative and sponsors to inculcate environmental awareness and action among youths.

The 2016 edition challenges high school students to be creative and innovative in addressing everyday environmental issues such as pollution, land usage, waste management and human health, to name a few.

This year’s competition required the high school participants to come up with a comprehensive project which includes the following elements:

  • Recycling – collecting recyclable items and inspiring students to be involved in recycling
  • School Farming – creative urban farming
  • Energy Efficiency – conserving energy in school through innovative approaches

The ceremony was attended by the guests of honor, Puan Yasmin Rasyid, Founder and President of EcoKnights, Mr. Amlir Ayat, Vice President of EcoKnights, Mr. Tan Shyue Wern, Director of Brand Management, IM4U and Puan Aishah Sinclair, Co-Founder of PoptaniAsia – Malaysia’s leading urban farming movement.

This year’s winners will receive the Dana Sukarelawan 1 Malaysia (DRe1M) from IM4U to further fund, develop, maintain and upgrade their projects in their respective schools. This is to ensure the continuity of the efforts by the students and school to be progressed further after the competition ends.

“This year, we decided to bring back the initial movement of Anugerah Hijau, where the competition begins the search for Malaysia’s Greenest School. The Anugerah Hijau was mainly focused on high schools from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor during its infant years and after 7 years, this competition has grown and made its mark amongst youth and we are proud that we now can search the whole of Malaysia for the Greenest School.” said Fadly Bakhtiar, the Programme Director of EcoKnights and the 8th Anugerah Hijau 2016.

“It only shows that the environmental awareness amongst youth in the current generation starts in school and Anugerah Hijau serves as a platform for them to channel their ideas.” added Fadly.

Anugerah Hijau 2016 is an annual flagship program by EcoKnights, and IM4U as a supporting partner and sanctioned by Ministry of Education. For more info about Anugerah Hijau 2016 log on to www.anugerahhijau.my.
