Anugerah Hijau 2010 Theme: Wildly Creative Mural
Hi all,
First of all congratulations to the schools that made to the final stage.
Here I want to share with you, a very very unique method of doing a 'Green Graffiti'. It is called 'Moss Grass Graffiti', and uses moss and grass as their medium. Obviously.
1. Entitled Off the Wall Falls, this image is a stream of water possibly sprouting from a storm drain in Lili`uokalani Botanical Gardens. The HDR rendering makes it look almost cartoon-like.

2. A moss grandfather clock grows from a concrete column.

3. A moss tree is home to Inke Heiland's wallpaper birds.

You can check it out more HERE. |

Hi everyone,
As you all know Anugerah Hijau 2010 was launched earlier in March, and there are two categories to be competed, Wildly Creative Mural and Totally Active Robot.

We will post more cool and fun stuff on both categories, so that the students and the members of this EcoForum can learn many useful things, and be inspired by other people's efforts.

Adidas Originals has gone all eco and presents the Grün Collection that aims to better the environment by efficiently utilizing the natural resources of this world.

German for “green,” “Grün” lets us know this entire pack of adidas sneakers is made of recycled materials.

With three guiding elements of “Made From”, “Recycled” and “Reground”, adidas Grün offers a range of products, including classic silhouettes like the Forum basketball sneaker and the ZX 500 runner, all made from recycled and natural materials. If it can work for Nike with the Considered line then this could be big news for adidas and the more eco conscious sneaker head.

Now you can be stylish, and still take care of our environment!

Environmental-Related Songs
Hi everyone,
I have a song I would like to share with all of you, it is called Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows.
Listen to the song and enjoy the lyrics!
They paved paradise and put up a parkin' lot With a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swingin' hot spot Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got till it's gone They paved paradise and put up a parkin' lot They took all the trees, and put em in a tree museum And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them No, no, no, don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got till it's gone They paved paradise, and put up a parkin' lot Hey farmer, farmer, put away your DDT I don't care about spots on my apples, Leave me the birds and the bees - please Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got till it's gone They paved paradise and put up a parking lot Hey now, they've paved paradise to put up a parking lot Why not? Listen, late last night, I heard the screen door swing, And a big yellow taxi took my girl away Now don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got till it's gone They paved paradise and put up a parking lot Hey now now, don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got till it's gone They paved paradise to put up a parking lot Why not, they paved paradise They put up a parking lot Hey hey hey, paved paradise and put up a parking lot I don't wanna give it Why you wanna give it Why you wanna givin it all away Hey, hey, hey Now you wanna give it I should wanna give it Cuz you're givin it all away, no no I don't wanna give it Why you wanna give it Why you wanna givin it all away Cuz you're givin it all givin it all away yeah yeah Cuz You're givin it all away hey, hey, hey Hey, paved paradise, to put up a parking lot la,la, la, la, la, la, la ,la ,la ,la ,la Paved paradise, and put up a parking lot

A Green School Project in Bali, Indonesia
A cool green school project by a school in Bali, Indonesia to make chocolate from the cocoa plants that are found abundant in the school area. A fun way to show the students how to make their own chocolate, and also a great way to enhance appreciation for the environment and Nature's gift to the land - cocoa.

Myth versus Reality
Loh Kai Tyng, one of the volunteers for EcoKnights, submitted a film that made it as a finalist in the Asian Development Bank. Check out her video!
Synopsis: There are always two sides to a story, even for an issue as big as climate change. Climate change is both seen as a myth and as a problem that needs to be tackled. This video aims to portray the two sides to climate change and ultimately gives a reason why climate change, despite many perspectives to this issue, should be curbed.

Walking the Green Way
A short film by Malaysian youth Kai Syuen submitted to the Asian Development Bank's film competition to address and highlight climate change issues.
Here's the synopsis: We lead our daily lives and take whatever we do for granted and without much thought. In reality, everything we do has an impact (a footprint) on the environment. Little things become big things when piled up together. People become crowds, and countries, when accumulated. Footprints become messes. This video is about climate change as a collective problem, and the collective effort required to solve it.

Young talented Malaysians and their Amazing Short Films
Hey there everyone.
Two years ago, we have an amazing pair of twins, Loh Kai Syuen and Loh Kai Tyng and their friends, who volunteered with EcoKnights to develop a school eco education module. This module was later used for our eco talks in secondary schools in Petaling Jaya during the Anugerah Hijau 2008 competitive year.
This year, these two amazing girls participated in the Asian Development Bank's film competition.
The good news is, Kai Tyng and Kai Syuen both got into the finals (Top 6) of the Youth under 21 category of the competition! Here is the link to the videos as well as the finalist videos:

Can the school projects be submitted in other languages?
Hi there everyone!
We have received some emails asking us if the projects for the Anugerah Hijau competition need to be submitted in English.
The answer is no.
We also accept project submissions in Bahasa Malaysia. If the school plans to use Tamil or Chinese, we hope that at least one translated version (BM or English) needs to be included.
Looking forward to receiving your submissions! |

Why is this year's Anugerah Hijau different from last year's?
Well, the answer is quite simple really.
We want to make the competition EXCITING and keep you, the students, anticipating on what sort of green projects you can work on for your school.
For this year, we have two whole new categories: Totally Active Robot and Wildly Creative Murals. As how it names suggest, Totally Active Robot involves making a robot, and Wildly Creative Mural involves working on a mural in your school.

And check this out: You don't need to start the project UNLESS your proposal is accepted. This helps us, at Anugerah Hijau, review your project proposals properly.
For each proposal which we have approved, your school/club will received RM500 as seed grant money to start your project. Now you see why we only want the proposals first?
In that proposal, you'd have to describe your project and how you are going to run the project. And please, tell us why we should choose your proposal and how you will spend the RM500
Once you have been shortlisted (only ten schools will be chosen), each school will have to send two student representatives and one teacher representation to attend ONE workshop (either the robot making workshop or the mural workshop, depending on which category your school has registered for). Only after the workshop, will you start your project.
It's as easy as that. And of course, the ten projects will be presented during our award ceremony where we will announce the winners.
Easy Peasy!
So start talking to your friends and teachers, and get them on board to participate. The prizes are AWESOME!
You can read about the competition guidelines here
Or submit your proposal here.
