13th September 2017, Kuala Lumpur – EcoKnights started its 9th Edition of Anugerah Hijau. This year, Waste Management was selected as the theme in conjunction of River of Life Project, a project under the Ministry of Federal Territory and Department of Irrigation and Drainage. This theme was selected to combat wastes that have been contributing river pollution around Kuala Lumpur.
Two schools, SM Sains Teknik Kuala Lumpur & SMK Sri Sentosa, have invited EcoKnights to give a talk at their schools. EcoKnights representatives, Mr. Emirul Redzuan & Ms. Nurul Fatiah were sent to their schools to give a talk on ‘Schools & Rivers’. There was a total of 90 participants, consisting of Form 4 and Form 6 Students. The context of this talk revolved around the actions schools can take to help our rivers become better in the near future. Emirul started off by introducing them about the rivers that permeate through Kuala Lumpur, which is, The Klang River and Kerayong River. The participants were surprised when shown the current water quality of our rivers today. When given a reflection of their hopes on the rivers in 10 years down the line, many of them expressed their hope to see the rivers clean from trash and to one day make it clean and accessible to all. The participants were informed that they could be part of a change simply by participating in activities that will leave an impact to our rivers. They were informed that the Anugerah Hijau competition with a waste management theme, where the schools with the best waste management proposal could stand a chance to be entitled to a grant; as an aid to begin their project. Participants were reminded that the completion would be commenced in January next year. This competition will be their chance to avail make our rivers clean again.
